Changing Trends in the Seroprevalence of Leptospirosis in Kelambakkam: A Ten-Year Retrospective Study

Introduction: Leptospirosis is a zoonotic infection affecting humans. The main sources of are animal reservoir hosts and man the accidental host in disease transmission process. diagnosis usually made by microscopy, culture, molecular techniques, serological tests like ELISA, MAT (Microscopic Agglutination Test) MSAT (Macroscopic Slide Test). ELISA method to detect IgM antibodies used as good cost-effective testing method. An increasing titre antibody sign active leptospirosis. Aims Objectives: study aimed evaluate seroprevalence Leptospirainfection over 10-year period tertiary care hospital located Kelambakkam village Chengalpattu district. Material Method: samples were tested for presence specific Leptospira patient’s serum using Panbio kit. reported positive/ negative/ equivocal accordingly. Results: This retrospective included total 2035 patients, clinically suspected leptospirosis, from 2011 2021. 186 patients positive method,giving an overall prevalence rate 9.14%. Conclusion: leptospirosis time more than 10 years highlighted our study. Clinical suspicion should be kept mind at all times, especially now during COVID-19 pandemic. test kit proves very useful diagnostic purposes, limited-resource settings.
